Marbella has been popular with vistors since the Romans came and has over the years been a favourite of the rich and famous and has thoroughly deserved its celebrity status.
In recent years it has made the headlines for the wrong reasons and despite the ups and downs is once again emerging as the star of the Mediterranean. there are many reasons for this but principally it has o be the temperate climate which is the best in Europe. Marbella enjoys warm but comparatively fresh summers and mild sunny winters from its micro climate influenced by the protection of La Concha mountain which guards the area from the North.
Marbella Town has grown around the original old walled town with the Orange Square in the centre. Now the metropolis is home to people from all over the world and is the most cosmopolitan resort in Europe. The pedestrianised Paseo Maritimo (promenade) stretches all the way to Puerto Banus and is home to a tremendous selection of reastaurants and bars where you can relax and watch the people go by.
In fact the municipality of Marbella stretches from Cabopino in the west through to Guadalmina in the East and includes many individual areas each of which have their own character and appeal for different reasons. The best beaches are in the west between Elviria and Los Monteros and to the East lies the International hot spot of Puerto Banus which a draw to tourists and is a mecca for designer shoppers.
On the outskirts of the town the La Cañada shopping Centre is amongst the largest in Spain and includes a remendous range of high street names in addition to individual boutiques and a large hypermarket.
